GREEN URBAN PLANNING
EVENT: GREEN ALTERNATIVE, BEST PRACTICES OF URBAN PLANNING | Palazzina Reale, Florence | 19th of April 2023
The GREEN topic is no longer addressed only from a merely ornamental perspective, but as a key resource for the sustainability of our cities. On the 19th of April from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Urban Planning Observatory Commission of the Order of Architects PPC of Florence is organising the event GREEN ALTERNATIVE, BEST PRACTICES OF URBAN PLANNING at the Palazzina Reale in Florence.
During the event, at 11.10 a.m., Irene Vigevani (IUSS Pavia and University of Florence) will dive deeper into the LIFE URBANGREEN project. The main objective of the project, which lasted almost four years, was to further develop the innovative GreenSpaces platform in order to make the management of green areas more efficient and to support cities in mitigating the effects of the climate change.
The presentation will show how the research team of the Universities of Milan and Florence measured, during the implementation of the LIFE project in two European cities, some ecosystem services for environmental regulation (reduction of CO2, improvement of microclimate and air quality). The study was conducted on 17 tree and shrub species, providing an overview of the results and the practical implications. The talk will reveal the close connection between scientific research and technological application in the creation of greener, healthier and more sustainable cities.
